The 2→2 LBCC→OSU bridge — the realistic path
Direct OSU as out-of-state for 4 years = $280,215 (the ceiling Aoife is comparing against). The realistic path runs through Linn-Benton Community College in Albany, OR — 15 miles north of OSU Corvallis — for the first 2 years (Y1+Y2), then transitions to OSU for the bachelor's (Y3+Y4). California is on Oregon's bordering-state list, so LBCC charges $7,733/yr T+F automatically — no application, no merit lottery.
Three 2→2 scenarios for a CA-resident student
| Scenario (Y1+Y2 LBCC → Y3+Y4 OSU) | 4-yr total | Saves vs direct OSU OOS |
|---|---|---|
| S5. LBCC bridge alone — Y3-Y4 OSU OOS (no residency conversion) | $208,438 | $71,777 |
| S2. LBCC bridge + WUE for Y3-Y4 (~30% award rate at OSU) | $200,745 | $79,470 |
| S4. LBCC bridge + parent moves to OR (Y3-Y4 OSU resident rate) | $148,668 | $131,547 |
All figures are 5%/yr inflation off OSU's 2026-27 board-approved rates: Resident T+F $16,014 · Non-resident T+F $42,459 · WUE T+F $24,021 (1.5× resident). Living costs (food + housing + books + transport + personal) = $22,554/yr at OSU. LBCC Y1-Y2 estimated $30K/yr (T+F $7,733 + Albany rent + food + books + transport + personal). Per-year math fully documented in the lbcc-savings sidecar.
What the DPP actually does
The Degree Partnership Program (DPP) is joint enrollment, not a discount. Students apply to OSU and LBCC together and are admitted to both; credits at either flow onto a unified OSU transcript. Critically, DPP unlocks OSU residence halls and dining even for LBCC-primary students taking 0 OSU credits per term — the only structural housing affordance Aoife gets from the partnership. Tuition savings come from three separate levers: cheap LBCC tuition, WUE if awarded at OSU, and the parent-moves-to-OR residency conversion.
OSU runs DPP partnerships with multiple Oregon CCs; LBCC has been the founding partner since 1998. For LBCC-side detail (Albany climate, employment, room-share market, full DPP housing affordances) see the set-aside Linn-Benton page.
